The Importance of Early Evaluation
During the early years of life, particularly in infancy and early childhood, the brain is most receptive to new experiences, learning, and forming neural connections, and early intervention is likely to have the greatest impact.
A study by Augustana College showed that children who exhibited signs of speech delay, but received help from an SLP by age 3, caught up to their peers by age 5. These improvements persisted throughout high school, even if they discontinued work with the SLP.
While this is great news, it also means there is a narrow window to assess your child, determine if they need help, and to get them the support they need.
