Program
- This program is made possible through Wings of Hope and our sponsoring partners and donors. Sponsored slots are filled on a rolling basis as funding becomes available.
- Families who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for financial assistance. If a sponsored slot is available, the standard PenguinSmart Parent Coaching program is extended from 4 to 6 months with a 90% fee reduction. The family co-pay is only $40/month, with a total 6-month commitment of $240, payable at the beginning of the program.
- Families selected under certain full-sponsorship tracks receive complete fee coverage, but are required to submit a refundable deposit of $250, returned upon successful program completion.
- All applicants meeting eligibility criteria will be placed on our sponsored waitlist and contacted when a slot opens.
Who is this for?
- No diagnosis restrictions — all diagnoses and conditions that would impair speech-language abilities are welcome to apply. We have received previously:
- ASD, cerebral palsy, genetic chromosomal diseases, intellectual disability, global developmental delay, delayed language onset, aphasia, traumatic brain Injuries.
- Best fit: Children whose communication ability is equivalent to age 6 or under, paired with a caregiver who is motivated and ready to practice strategies daily.
- Not Suitable: dyslexia, learning disabilities
- Supporting Language: The caregiver needs to be able to communicate with coaches in either English or Mandarin Chinese.
- Our specialist team can advise on usage of AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), but we do not provide the devices.
What Do the 6 months Include
This initiative is financially supporting families to receive an extended version of the PenguinSmart flagship service - the parent-facing Customized Private Coaching (CPC)
I. Ability Mapping
- Before the program begins, complete our CORE-Pro parent-child interaction self-assessment. This questionnaire+video evaluation asesses your child's current communication ability and your current interaction style. Your coaches will know you so well that you can have a very focused conversation right from the start
II. 1-on-1 Online Coaching Sessions
- You will be assigned 2 designated coaches throughout the program - Speech-Language Pathologist Coach (6 sessions, 30 min each), and a Caregiver Coach (4 sessions, 30 min each)
- Multiple caregivers from the same household are welcome to join the online sessions simultaneously
- All sessions are recorded — review them anytime
- Your coaching team also conducts two virtual home visit check-ins, with ongoing text and voice support in between sessions
III. Personal Learning Platform Account
- You'll receive your own dedicated account, which includes:
- Self-paced learning resources you can revisit anytime
- A personalized training plan, session recordings, and therapist notes
- Weekly skill focuses, practice activity checklists, and progress tracking
- Updated every two weeks with new exercises and home practice activities
- Accessible on any internet-connected device — phone, tablet, or computer
